Child Support Rights

Historically, child support enforcement in Korea has faced systemic hurdles. However, significant milestones like the passage of the Child Support Enforcement Act have created stricter regulatory systems to enforce parental obligations.

Unwed mothers have the right to legally claim monthly support payouts from the biological father, even if the father is unregistered or refuses involvement. KUMFA assists in linking mothers to legal representation to initiate these procedures.

Birth Registration & The Special Adoption Law

Under the revised Special Adoption Law, judicial approval from family courts is mandatory for any legal adoption, requiring formal child birth reports. While this protects a child's legal identity and curbs unregistered or illegal adoptions, it requires the child to be recorded on family register documents—a hurdle KUMFA actively navigates alongside mothers facing structural stigma.
